03: Setup Credentials

Now that you acquired an account, and received your SIP number as well as setup your SIP Password, it is time to set up your device. Keep in mind that your SIP password should be different from your account password. Some password managers may offer to save the “new” password when setting up an extension. Always choose Not Now. You are not changing the account password, but setting up a SIP password. Copy your SIP password, and make note that you would have to carefully type your SIP UID which will be an 11 digit number starting with 1777. Once you properly setup your credentials and everything is ready to use, pick up your SIP line, and dial 17771234567. This is an echo test. If you get a proper response, then everything is working fine, and we can proceed with the next step.

Setting Up SIP Client

Go to your smart phone, and open the SIP client you installed in step 1. Once you open the SIP client, and go to the setup section, you would want to use that 1777 number as your UID, the password you copied into your device as the SIP Password, and the SIP domain is callcentric.com. If you are given a choice of setting up a Voicemail access number, then use *86.

Setting SIP Phone

Assuming you choose a SIP Phone you would want to enter the ATA’s or Phone’s Web GUI. The way you would do that will be to find the LAN IP Address of the device. You would then go to your web browser, and enter that IP Address. It would likely begin with 10, or 192. Once you get to the Web GUI panel, you would log in. Your device might have a random password on the device, but if not, the password is likely the same as your UID (such as admin for the UID, and admin for the Password). As with the SIP client, you would need to setup at the bare minimum of UID, password and SIP domain. If you are given the option to provide a Name, consider using your real name. For voicemail, it will again be *86. Some SIP phones will let you know when you have voicemail assuming you setup the voicemail access code.

Since there are so many ATAs, and SIP Phones out there – each doing things a different way – there is no way I can walk you through on setting up your device. Personally, I use a Grandstream WP825 which seems simple enough to interface with. Keep in mind, that even though you setup your credentials, it might not take effect immediately. Reboot the device, and give it 10 minutes for its first login. It won’t take that long on future boot ups.
