02: Sign Up with Callcentric

Now that you have SIP capability, it is time to get a SIP account. There are multiple SIP providers, but for the purpose of this tutorial, we will focus on Callcentric. If you are comfortable with using another provider, then this tutorial is probably not for you. As noted in the Requisites, you should be using a computer when managing with web interfaces. You would want to go to https://callcentric.com. Once there, start the process with setting up an account. Keep note of the UID, and password you created. If you are using your personal computer, or personal web browser, keep these credentials in your password manager. If you are using a public computer, and are not using your browser on a USB stick, then do not save your password. If you know how to use USB applications, then you are likely technically savvy enough to acquire service without this tutorial.

Once you created an account, you would be provided with an 11 digit number that will begin with 1777. It will look like a US telephone number, but it is not. Also, when setting up an account, you also have a SIP address. Your SIP address will be ( sip:You-ID@callcentric.com ). Unless someone asks for your SIP address, you would likely not need to worry about your SIP address. Once you signed up, you would need to setup your first extension. Select the Extensions tab, and go from there. Do NOT make your SIP password the same as your account password. Also, your password manager might prompt you in saving your “new” password. Do not, as you are just setting up a SIP password, and not changing the account password.
